William Asa Everett

October 17, 1934 - September 27, 2022

William Asa Everett, age 87, a resident of Washington, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the ECU Health Beaufort Hospital.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date.

Mr. William Asa Everett was born on October 17, 1934, son of the late William Jesse Everett and Mabel Smith Everett. On January 26, 1956, he married Shirley Waters, who preceded him in death on February 9, 1995.

He is survived by his children: a son, Mike Everett of Washington, two daughters, Cindy Everett and husband Mike Pullias of Hillsborough, NC and Sylvia and husband Tommy Harris of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by a grandson, Cliff Harris and wife Ashton of Wake Forest, NC and a sister, Cora Bell Cannon and husband Ivy of New Bern.

Most people knew Mr. Everett as "Billy" but, close friends and family members called him "Skeeter", a nickname given to him by his Daddy when he was a young boy.

Mr. Everett was the owner and operator of Everett's Used Cars and Body Shop for over 61 years.

The strong work ethic he possessed led him to always be in his shop working or on the hunt for a vehicle or parts to repair one.

He was heard to say that he didn't need any hobbies because he enjoyed his work so much. Not only did Mr. Billy have an extensive knowledge of automobiles (both vintage and modern) but, he was a avid nascar fan as well.

In his younger days Mr. Billy was also a big boating enthusiast, he was known for his slalom water skiing abilities earning him the title of "Ski King" among his friends.

Riding through Little Washington with Mr. Billy was like getting a guided history tour,he loved to tell stories about how everything had changed over the many years he had lived there.

He will best be remembered by his children for the rich tradition of storytelling he passed on to them and his great sense of humor and wit, he was always fun to be around, especially when he would get out his guitar and play and sing.

The last year of Mr. Everett's life was fraught with many health challenges which he met with steadfast determination and resolve.

His family, friends and faith in the Lord helped sustain him till the end.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

A special thanks to all those health care workers at ECU Health and Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center who served and assisted him during his illness
