Virgie Ruth Elks, 66, a resident of Belhaven, NC passed away on January 6, 2022 at Vidant Medical in Greenville, NC.
VIrgie was born May 2,1955 to Carrie Elizabeth Paul and Latham "Dick" Jarvis Jr. She graduated from John A. Wilkinson High School in Belhaven in 1973 then worked at Blue Channel with her father. Later, she found her calling working as a supervisor in telecommunications for the Belhaven Police Department for fourteen years.
She married Ervin Elks in 2001, and for two decades they enjoyed traveling, watching cooking shows, and then seeking out the foods they saw on those shows. They enjoyed a fun, spontaneous lifestyle together. They were the type of couple that would run an errand to the grocery store and end up in a different state, maybe at a remote mountain cabin, or some other destination without a second thought.
Virgie is survived by her loving spouse Ervin Elks; a sister: Connie Thomasson and husband Mark of Gretna, VA; a brother: Mike Jarvis and wife Beverly of Bayview, NC; 2 nieces, 2 nephews, 6 great-nephews and 2 great-nieces.
She was preceded in death by her mother Carrie Elizabeth Paul and her father "Dick" Jarvis Jr; a son: Melvin Gray Gibbs III; and a brother: Ronnie Jarvis
A visitation will be held at 1:00pm at Joseph B Paul Jr./ Washington Funeral & Cremation on Monday, January 10 with a graveside service and entombment following at Pamlico Memorial Gardens at 2:00pm, with David Linton officiating.
