Samuel B. Price

On Friday February 9, 2018 Sam age 80, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home. He will be forever remembered by his wife of 52 years, Angela, his daughter Victoria Miller and husband Greg of Washington NC; daughter Alexandra Baj and husband Doug of Arlington VA; son Eric Price of Redmond WA; grandchildren Kate, Patrick, Amelia, Tessa, Jonathan, Cole, Allyson and Chris; and his brother Robert Barge Price of Conyngham PA.

Sam was born in Philadelphia PA and lived in Conyngham PA where the Price family had a successful dairy business for many years. He thoroughly enjoyed life and his many hobbies, including international travel, sailing, astronomy and photography. He graduated from MMI Preparatory School and attended Penn State University. Sam photographed prominent jazz musicians from the 1950's while at Penn State as a member of the Jazz Club. He was an avid runner and completed more than 10 marathons including Boston and the Marine Corps. As a young man, Sam raced his yellow Porsche and won many trophies for hill climbs and racing on ice. Sam and his wife retired to Washington NC in 1998. He was a proud member of the Down East Seniors and the Washington Yacht Club.

Anyone who knew Sam knew he was a jokester. He especially loved amusing his grandchildren with stories about the swamp women, crazy chicken, and the old goat.
The family is most appreciative of the loving care provided by Amedisys Hospice and most especially Danielle and Rebecca.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice.

To the Price Family: So very sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I remember him racing at the Weatherly Hillclimb, Giant's Despire and at Lake Naomi with my dad,Cal Knyrim. We had many happy times on the farm, running around with Sam's doberman Max. Although it's been many years since I last saw Sam, I think about him every time I see a Porsche. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this sad time.

My sincere condolences. I was just a young teenager when I first met Sam at Giants Despair hillclimb in PA. I'll never forget his smile while getting ready to get into his yellow Porsche. Always looked like he was having a blast! I remember the PA announcer calling him Sam the Ice Cream man.Rip Sam . You made this young teenager love sports cars and for that I thank you!

I worked at Price's Dairy from the time I was sixteen (1959) until I graduated from high school in 1961 and then worked summers until I graduated from college in 1965. It was "Sammy", as we called him back then, who introduced me to sports car hillclimbs. I photographed the hillclimbs from 1963-1966 and have been photographing some sort of motorsports ever since. Thanks "Sammy", you will never know the lasting influence that you have had on my life.
