Rowland Leonard Greenwald Jr., age 79, a resident of Ayden, NC passed away on Friday, February 25, 2022 in the comfort of his home.

He was born on July 12, 1942 to the late Rowland and Dorothy (Watson) Greenwald in Lumberton, NJ. A graduate of the criminal justice program at Dartmouth College, Rowland became a police officer, police sergeant, and K-9 officer with over 22 years of service. Rowland was a dedicated man who also rose to the level of a 32° Freemason at Mount Holly Lodge #14, Mount Holly, NJ.

When he wasn't relaxing enjoying sports such as golf, fishing, baseball, and football (specifically the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles), camping, or just being with his family, Rowland liked it loud and fast: NASCAR (#3 Dale Earnhardt Sr.), skeet shooting, guns, and anything off road with wheels.

His experience as a police officer and his love for NASCAR and his family, ultimately led to his working security at the Daytona Speedway with his son. A time both would forever cherish.

Rowland may have been a legend in his own mind, but to those that loved him he was simply Pop, "Pop Pop", or a best friend. So, the next time you hear "The Bristol Stomp" by the Dovells, smell a Bo Jangles Bo Berry Biscuit, or mistakenly drink an unsweet tea; smile when you think of Rowland.

Rowland is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; R. Derek and Johna Marie Greenwald of Ayden, NC; daughter and son-in-law: Kimberly Jo and Howard Moore of Vanceboro, NC; two granddaughters, Raven Cheyenne Greenwald, Kathryn Ramos and husband Daniel; three grandsons: R. Justin Hensley, R. Hunter Hugh and fiancée Riley Bryant, and Dakota Shayne Greenwald; great-grandson Ryan; two great-granddaughters, Byrstal and Jessi; three Great-grandsons: Levi, Allen, and Josiah; four nephews: A.J. Middleton, Steven Merchant, Chuckie Merchant, Greg Merchant; sister, Yvonne "Sis" Merchant; two nieces; Nikki Merchant and Terry Merchant and many other nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Rowland is predeceased by his loving wife of 52 years Patricia, and his grandson, Tristan J. Hensley.

Rowland's fight with kidney failure has been a long and expensive battle. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations to help defray the costs that his illness has created and may be made by clicking the link below.
