Kay Burbage Tetterton age 77, a resident of Bath, NC passed away at her home Thursday, March 30, 2023.

A visitation for Kay will be held Sunday April 2, 2023, at 2:00 pm at St. Clair's Church of Christ with the funeral to follow at 3:00pm. The burial will take place in the church cemetery at the conclusion of the funeral service.

Kay was raised in Beaufort County, born to the late Hugh Delmo Burbage and Pearl Audrey Burbage (Paul). Along with her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Dal Tetterton, and son Chris Tetterton.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Huber and husband Danny of Smithfield, NC; a nephew: Ron Moore; five grandchildren: Amanda Walters and husband Chris, Cody Huber and wife Haley, Dallas Tetterton, Dawson Tetterton and Davis Tetterton, two great-grandchildren: Noah Oman and Hannah Claire Huber and many nieces and nephews.

Kay was a shining light -not a dim bulb flickering in a storeroom basement, but a spotlight, bright and intense, often leading the way for others. She wasn’t flighty or fickle but instead a solid, reliable figure in many lives. She was grounded and truthful and you were never mistaken about how she felt or where you stood with her.

There are two kinds of people in life: the kind of people who timidly dip their toes into a pool, testing the waters, and there are some who leap in. Kay was known for her cannonball, metaphorically. She did not do things timidly, or in half-measures. When she was younger, she raced cars, and was smart enough to never race anyone she knew she couldn’t beat. She would wrangle snakes for her neighbors and change men’s tires; she was not a shrinking violet.

She raced cars. She drove tractors. She drove everything. That’s a good metaphor for how Kay lived her life: she drove everything. She was a guiding force in the lives of many, whether as a substitute teacher at Northside High School or while helping run her farm or while being an EMT with Bath Rescue. She got things done and she did so with commitment and passion.

And there was nothing she was more passionate about than piano. Multiple generations passed through the doors of St Clairs church; your grandparents brought your parents and your parents brought you, and they all saw Kay sitting there at her piano, reliable as the morning sun, decade after decade. She spent fifty years of Sundays bringing warmth and music to anyone who’d listen.

She will not be forgotten. Kay was loved and will be missed and remembered by the many people whose lives she touched.

Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service is honored to be serving the Tetterton family.

    Jackie Norman Tetterton Jr says:
Mrs. Kay was the glue to the Family, I loved spending time with her and Dal even more so after my Dad and Uncle Gene passed away. Never thought Dal would out live them both especially with his Health issues early on but he did. Always looked forward to Hunting Season, where we spent the last three months of the year, every year. My Step Mom Lorraine and Kay would always help clean the Bears Den getting it ready for opening day and all the Family who would need a place to stay during the Season. Kay was the best, so funny and will be missed dearly as is Dal and Chris. May not have seen them much the past few years but always welcomed and we would always discuss the past. Great Conversations always.
