Johnny McRoy
Johnny McRoy, age 70, a resident of 1865 Goose Creek Road Washington, NC died Sunday March 4, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Thursday March 8, 2018 at Woodard's Pond Church of Christ officiated by Eddie Gurganus. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 6:00 PM until the service hour and other times at the home.
Mr. McRoy was born in Pitt County on June 13, 1947 the son of the late George McRoy and Icy Belle Mills McRoy. He married Teresa Taylor his wife of 51 years on November 12, 1966. Johnny worked in the insurance business for 25 years after his retirement he ran the Midway Grocery where he spent much of his time talking with his friends and customers. He helped to establish the Bunyan Fire Department working hard to get donations and anything that was needed to make it successful. Johnny also dedicated some of his time as a volunteer with the Washington Fire Department. He loved to cook and was known for cooking for his neighbors and his Woodard's Pond Church family which he loved so much. Along with cooking he enjoyed shopping, watching westerns, driving his dump truck (Sugar), loving and playing with his cats: Tiger, Boots and Precious and just being around family and friends. Johnny will be missed by his family and all that knew him.
Survivors include his wife: Teresa Taylor McRoy of the home; a brother: Jimmy McRoy and wife Dorothy of Winterville, NC; four sisters: Ernestine Peaden, Irene Lee, Evelyn Parker and Barbara Strickland all of Greenville, NC; and two brothers in laws: Joey Taylor and wife Cathy of Washington, NC and Keith Taylor of Greensboro, NC. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Jay and Claudell McRoy and a niece: Hollie Grace Taylor.
