James Robert Hardison, born on September 30, 1938, in Jamesville, NC, peacefully passed away on September 5, 2023, at ECU Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

James lived a fulfilling life, reaching the age of 84. He dedicated many years to the phosphate industry, working as a Heavy Equipment Operator. His commitment to his work was unparalleled, achieving perfect attendance for over 25 years and never once calling in sick. He was known for his strong work ethic and reliability.

Outside of work, James had a deep passion for fishing. He found solace and joy in spending every weekend casting his line alongside his beloved grandson, Brandon. They shared countless memories and bonded over their love for the sport. Additionally, James had a keen interest in bird watching and took pride in raising a variety of animals. He even opened up his home to school groups, allowing them to experience his petting zoo firsthand.

In his free time, James could often be found frequenting the local bait shops and enjoying the delicious offerings at the King Chicken Restaurant. He cherished these simple pleasures and embraced the moments of relaxation they provided.

James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ellen Hardison, as well as his parents, Mary Ann Hardison and Joseph Robert Hardison. Their memories will forever hold a special place in his heart.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Wendy Manning, and his grandson, Brandon Hardison, along with Brandon's wife, Christina. James's love for his family was immeasurable, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Services on Friday, September 22, 2023. The visitation will take place from 6:00pm to 7:00pm, followed by the service from 7:00pm to 8:00pm. Friends and loved ones are invited to pay their respects and share in the memories of a remarkable man.

James Robert Hardison will forever be remembered for his dedication, hard work, and love for his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the memories he created. May he rest in eternal peace.

    I affectionately called him “meanness” and he called me the same. I met him when I worked at Smith Bros. on Park Drive. He had a gruff exterior, but was a really nice man. I hadn’t seen him in years, he will be missed. Prayers for his family.
