James Roberson Harding Jr.

January 8, 1963 - July 28, 2023
James Roberson Harding Jr.
James Roberson Harding, born on January 8, 1963, in Washington, NC, bid his final farewell on July 28, 2023, in the very same town. At the age of 60, James left behind a legacy that was as vibrant and wild as the adventures he embarked upon throughout his life.

From the moment he could walk, James knew that the great outdoors was where he belonged. He dedicated his entire work history logging, becoming an expert in his craft. Whether it was the towering trees or the smell of freshly cut wood, James had a deep-rooted connection to the land that surrounded him.

When he wasn't hard at work in the woods, James indulged in the things that brought color to his world. Fishing was his escape, a chance to cast his worries away and reel in stories to share with friends and family. And speaking of friends and family, they were the heart and soul of his universe. James was the life of every party, always ensuring that those around him were having the time of their lives.

His love for animals knew no bounds. James was a devoted caretaker to any creature with legs, beaks, paws, or feet. His canine companions, Lucy and Desi never had any explaining to do, and his cat Gracie, held a special place in his heart when she wasn't going after their bird Patty. Together, they all formed a pack that couldn't be broken.

Among his many interests, James had an insatiable curiosity for the mysteries of the universe. He would spend hours with his trusty telescope, gazing at the stars and contemplating the vastness of the cosmos. Weather and astronomy intrigued him, and he had an uncanny ability to predict the forecast with spooky accuracy.

In the midst of his incredible journey, James experienced immeasurable loss. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Roberson Harding Sr. and Caredwyn "Carrie" Mitchell Harding, as well as three nephews: James Keith Anderson, Corey Thomas Anderson, and David Trey Dawes. The void left by their absence will forever be felt.

Leaving behind memories that will be cherished for generations to come, James is survived by his spouse Bernie Tant of Washington, sister: Kathy Jones, and her husband, David, of Core Points, NC; Patricia Harding and her husband, Thomas Settle of Chocowinity, NC; his brother Ricky Harding and wife Lila of Blounts Creek, NC; his brother Larry Harding of Blounts Creek, NC; seven nieces and nephews; and twenty great-nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at noon, at Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service on Saturday, August 5, with the funeral service following at 1:00pm at the same location.

To his longtime partner Bernie Tant, who spent three decades collecting animals, stories, and mountains of laughter alongside James, we extend our deepest condolences. Their shared adventures will forever be etched in the memories of those lucky enough to have witnessed their beautiful bond.

In the end, as we say goodbye to James, let us remember him as the unstoppable force of nature that he was. May his spirit continue to roam freely among the trees, casting his infectious laughter upon the winds and reminding us all to embrace life with the same zest that he possessed. Farewell, James Roberson Harding. The world is a little less vibrant without you.
