Out of respect for our mother's profession we had postponed her memorial service. Her desire to have friends and family gather safely in a celebration of her life was very important and we look forward to all the shared memories and smiles you bring. A celebration of Ginny's life will be held on July 29th, 2021 from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Joseph B. Paul Jr. Funeral Service & Washington Funeral and Cremation

On Thursday, January 7th, 2021 our loving mother passed away at her home after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Ginny was born in Woodbury, NJ on May 2nd, 1948 to Henry and Henrietta Thompson. She was the middle child of 5 and a proud daddy's girl.

She was the proud parent of 4 children, Denise H. Beaman of NC, John J. Hassell of Las Vegas, Jesse A. Hassell of VA, and Jennifer A. Harris of NC. She had 9 amazing grandchildren Jessica, Christopher, Thomas, Katie, Sarah, Hannah, McCoy, Brayden, and Carter and 6 great grandchildren Gavin, Patrick, Willow, Rory, TJ and Maysie. Our mother loved past bloodlines and her bonus daughter Christine Jackson, and her family felt that every day. She was proud of each and every one of us.

At the age of 15, our mother had a calling to become a nurse which she accomplished in 1980 after attending COA in Elizabeth City, NC. She spent the next 40 years fulfilling that calling and only retired in 2020 when her health needed to become her full-time focus. Over her career she worked in many areas of the field but no matter the area she left a profound impact on her patients, fellow nurses, and doctors. She was a forever student in her field and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with the next generation of nurses. It gave her joy to give back and the impact that she had on the people around her was profound and long lasting.

In lieu of flowers, please make a small donation in her name to either of these foundations. The Kidney Cancer Association www.kidneycancer.org or Deborah Heart and Lung Center www.deborahfoundation.org.
