Eleanor Hodges Jarvis age 87, a resident of 3240 NC Hwy 33 West, Grimesland, NC died Monday, May 28, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Rosemary Church of Christ officiated by Ola Forbes.
The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 1:00 PM until the service hour. Burial will follow in Pamlico Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Eleanor was born in Beaufort County on January 16, 1931 the daughter of the late Thad Joseph Hodges and Pearlie Elks Hodges.
She was married to Elwood C. Jarvis, her husband of 49 years who preceded her in death. Eleanor received her nursing training from Tayloe Hospital and served along side Dr. John Tayloe for ten years. After a brief retirement from nursing she became a secretary at Chocowinity High School where she worked for many years until her retirement. Loving people and fulfilling the need to serve, Eleanor became a valuable staff member of Hillside Funeral Service. There she served many families with her kind heart and comforting words. She taught Sunday school at the First Christian Church in Washington. Eleanor will always be remembered as a devoted wife and mother who loved and cherished every minute spent with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include husband: Mayhue Bell of Raleigh; two sons: Elwood "Woody" C. Jarvis Jr. and wife Joy-Ann of Belhaven; James "Jim" Jarvis and wife Susan of Washington; and four grandchildren: Dr. Elizabeth Jarvis and fiance' Dr. Benjamin White, Mr. Elwood "Wells" Jarvis and wife Marissa, David Jarvis and Alyssa Jarvis.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.
