Doris Ann (Smith) Woolard, a resident of Washington, NC passed away at her home on Tuesday March 7, 2023 after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Friday March 10, 2023 at Oakdale Cemetery in Washington with Eddie Bowen and Reggie Braziel officiating.
Doris Ann was born on March 16, 1949 in Washington, NC to the late Marvin (Sr.) and Lorraine Smith. On June 8, 1969, she married Wiley Marshall Woolard, who survives. She was a 1967 graduate of Washington High School where she was a majorette and a 1969 graduate of Peace College. She worked with the State of North Carolina, Production Credit Association and Tideland Mental Health. Over various times in her life she worked with her parents in their family businesses Smith Brothers Grocery and Giant Discount Stores. She was a member of Old Ford Church of Christ where she belonged to the women’s circle before her health declined.
Doris Ann is survived by her husband Wiley, their three children Doug Woolard and wife Kelly, Marsha Young and husband Shane, and Ashley Woolard whom she worried about even as they became adults. Her beloved six grandchildren who affectionately called her Nanny, Katelyn Woolard, Jacob Young, Sidney Young, Payton Woolard, Parker Woolard and Pressley Woolard. She is also survived by her brother Marvin Smith Jr, special caregiver Volina Tyson and several cousins.
Like her Mother, Doris Ann was gifted in ceramics, where her work will be remembered by her family especially at Christmas time which she loved and made sure all of her family had special ones which she did with all holidays.
