David Franklin Langley, Sr. (aka “Frank” or “Captain Easy”) transitioned to his heavenly home on March 26, 2023, at the age of 86.
He was a lifetime resident of Chocowinity, NC and graduated from Chocowinity High School. After proudly serving in the Army where he was offered the rank of Captain, he chose to end his service career and devote his life to his family.
He supported his community as an active member of the Masonic organization and was a Boy Scout leader for many years. Frank never met a stranger and was a natural- born salesman. He sold mattresses for years going door to door throughout NC and surrounding areas.
His love for people, electronics, and two-way communications (CB radios) eventually led him to open Tarheel Radio, which he successfully operated until he retired. Frank was well known over the air waves as Captain Easy, and this is where he made many lifelong friends. From Harleys to Honda Gold Wings, he had a passion for riding motorcycles and always had one cleaned and ready for his next adventure. He traveled all over the country when given the chance, but his most favorite place to visit was the Great Smoky Mountains.
Frank was always happy, always smiling, and just loved life in general. The love for his children, however, was always center stage and gave him the most joy. He never missed a ball game, school, or church function for either of his children; and he was proud of every accomplishment. He taught them to work hard, never leave a job unless you had a better one waiting, and to always treat others how you want to be treated. Frank loved the Lord and raised his children in church. He was an amazing father whose unconditional love, unwavering patience, hard work ethic, strong moral character, and Christian values, set the perfect example of how to live a life you could look back on and be proud of. Frank Langley was a true role model that his children looked up to and will forever be proud of.
Frank was preceded in death by his father, David Hamilton Langley of Chocowinity; birth mother, Ester Elizabeth Campbell Langley of Chocowinity; mother, Easter Bell Langley of Chocowinity; brother Vann Taylor Langley of Chocowinity; sister, Elsie Marie Langley Jones of Washington; and son, Benjamin Hamilton Langley of Chocowinity. He is survived by a son, David Franklin Langley, Jr. of Chocowinity; son, Christopher Lee Langley and fiancé Holly Marie Johnson of Chocowinity; daughter, Mignon Langley Norman of Greenville; daughter, Melissa Hope Langley of Washington; daughter, Teresa Smith Langley of Chocowinity; special friend and partner, B-Lynn Sheppard; grandchildren, Chad Langley, Benjamin Zachary-Wade Langley, Samuel Alexander Langley, Jessica Danielle Ham, Tiffany Smith Kight, Bryson Alan Groccia, Ciana Jade Groccia, Amberly Nicole Keech, Bryanna Paige Summers, Hunter Quaid Summers, their families and several great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
The family would also like to honorably mention all of Frank’s CB radio and motorcycle family. There are too many to mention that span the globe. You were a special part of his life for over 50 years. Captain Easy has finally earned his “Gold Wings”, has laid his mic down for the last time and is “over and out”. Keeping true to the life he lived, the family will honor him with a celebration of life event once a venue can be secured. Details are forthcoming and all family and friends will be invited.
