Charles "Pete" Dawson Fell III, age 82, a resident of Bath, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Autumnfield of Belhaven.
Pete was the son of William Bonner Fell and Alma Edna (Bair) Fell. Born on September 22, 1939, he graduated from the Central High School of Hopewell Township in Pennington, New Jersey, in 1957. In 1961, he earned a bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA, graduating fifth in his class.

His career was in engineering and management. He started his career at DeLaval Turbine in Trenton, NJ, then worked for the NJ Department of Civil Service as a personnel examiner and supervisor. He retired in 1991, after 25 years with the state of New Jersey, as Chief, Bureau of Capital Programming for the state Department of Transportation. In 2000, after he had retired, he moved to Bath, NC where, with the help of his wife Liz, he cleared a wooded lot and did much of the work of building his own home.

Pete was exceptionally talented in many areas. He loved the outdoors and liked to work with his hands, building things and solving real-world problems. He could fix practically anything and was skilled in carpentry, plumbing, welding, wiring, and auto repair. Pete built beautiful furniture and two boats, in addition to helping design and build his retirement home. For many years, he repaired his own cars, and those of multiple family members.
He loved fishing and boating and was an avid water skier. Pete was a loyal son, caring father, and devoted husband to his wife of 34 years, Liz, who will remember him as "the kindest person in the world." His wise counsel, thoughtful conversation, and gentle good humor will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fell; daughter Loriann Fell; daughter and son-in-law Bonnie Fell Willey and Timothy Willey; step-daughter Kelly Finan; grandsons Patrick and Owen Willey; brother Henry Fell; and sister Betsy Fell.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother William Tripp Bonner Fell.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
